In the workshop, the huge wheel has completed layer by layer inspection, slowly loaded onto the truck, and is about to rush to the Koisha River Valley in Ethiopia. This 300 MW core component has been successfully launched, setting a new record for China's hydropower single unit capacity in Africa and opening a new chapter in the delivery of the 1800 MW power plant host.

Core component launch battle

On October 19, 2026, DEC developed and supplied the first turbine for the Koisha Hydropower Station in Ethiopia, which completed manufacturing and third-party joint acceptance, and was successfully shipped. The project has a total installed capacity of 1800 megawatts and is equipped with six 300 megawatt vertical mixed flow units, all of which are independently designed and manufactured by DEC. It is the largest hydropower project with a single unit capacity exported by a Chinese independent brand to Africa. The impeller is the component with the highest technical threshold for water turbine units, which directly determines the operating efficiency and stability of the unit. The single machine scale of this project has increased by about 60% compared to the previous Jibu 3 hydropower station, and the manufacturing standards are more stringent. The joint acceptance of the three parties has built a solid quality barrier for the equipment to go abroad. Keywords: Khoisha hydropower station, hydropower going abroad

Deeply cultivating the East African hydropower track

Ethiopia has abundant reserves of hydropower resources, and DEC has already rooted itself in the local market. The previously delivered Jibu 3 hydropower station has been put into stable operation, accumulating local implementation experience for the Koisha project. During the progress of the Koisha project, five more rotating wheels and a complete set of electromechanical equipment will be delivered one after another. The project construction period will last for two to three years, and the requirements for supporting auxiliary equipment, large-scale logistics, on-site operation and maintenance will be released in batches. Ethiopia continues to promote large-scale hydropower development, while China's hydropower equipment continues to expand into the East African market with mature technology and delivery capabilities. DEC also relies on project performance to continuously strengthen the foundation of energy cooperation between China and Africa, injecting momentum into the upgrading of regional power supply.Editor/Min Jing
