The hustle and bustle of the Adriatic coast slowly fades away, and the groundbreaking of the Budva Ring Road, along with the already open M2 highway and the northward extension of the North South Expressway, forms a complete picture of Montenegro's transportation upgrade. The Chinese enterprise team is rooted in the seaside and deep mountains, solving the problem of traffic congestion during peak seasons and breaking through the bottleneck of mountainous areas, injecting lasting momentum into local development.

Clearing and blocking the new coastal road

The Budva Ring Road has a total length of about 8 kilometers and is implemented by a consortium of five companies from Montenegro, China, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the participation of Shandong Hi Speed Group. After the completion of the project, transit vehicles can bypass the old city and alleviate congestion during the tourist season. The renovation and expansion of the M2 highway supporting the Tivat Airport, which is 16 kilometers away from Budva, also came from the hands of Shandong Expressway. The total length is 16.3 kilometers, and the two-way two lane road has been widened to four lanes. The main line will be opened at the end of May 2026, and the travel time between the two places will be reduced to 20 minutes. The long journey in the past has become history.

Mountain expressway breaks through

The planned total length of Montenegro North South Expressway is about 180 kilometers, starting from Bar in the south and ending at Boliare in the north. The 41 kilometer priority section constructed by CRBC will be opened to traffic in July 2022, including 16 tunnels and 20 bridges, with a bridge tunnel ratio of about 60%. The travel time from Podgorica to Kolasin will be reduced from one and a half hours to half an hour. The passenger flow of merchants along the route has significantly increased, and the popularity of short distance cultural tourism continues to rise.
