In the early morning of October, the wind in the thirteen rooms of Yizhou District in Hami woke up first. The Gobi is still sinking in gray blue, and the builders have climbed up to a hundred meters high to debug the last wind turbine. With the blades firmly biting in the air, all 82 wind turbines of the 900000 kW wind storage project of the 13 rooms of Hami Energy Company's 1 million kW integrated wind and solar storage project have been lifted and completed. Almost at the same time, in the depths of the Gobi Desert over a hundred kilometers away, the construction workers of the 100 MW solar thermal project of China Resources Power Heavy Energy Xinjiang Company were squatting in the mirror field, performing precise calibration on one side of the sun setting mirror. Two good news echoes each other through the sound of the wind.

Chasing the sun to build a power station

At the site of the 100 MW solar thermal project of China Resources Power Heavy Energy Xinjiang Company, the project relies on party building grid governance, consolidates the three-level guarantee responsibilities of construction, supervision, and construction, and focuses on key processes such as molten salt storage tank construction, heat absorption tower structure installation, and precise calibration of the sun setting mirror one by one. At present, the main factory building has been topped out, the main construction of the hot melt salt tank, and the lifting of core equipment have been successfully completed. The entire process is safe and standardized, with excellent quality and efficiency, and we are striving to achieve the goal of putting it into operation. The value of solar thermal energy lies in energy storage - storing sunlight during the day in molten salt and releasing it for power generation at night or when there is insufficient wind and solar output, turning unstable new energy into adjustable and stable electricity.

Bailifeng District Standing Windmill

Thirteen rooms are located in the center of a hundred mile wind zone on the southern edge of the Tianshan Mountains. In the past, there were strong winds and sandstorms all year round, but now it has become a green power site with numerous towers. The completion of this hoisting marks the official entry of the project into a new stage of electrical installation, equipment debugging, and grid connection preparation. The total installed capacity of the project is 900000 kilowatts, with an annual power generation of approximately 1.914 billion kilowatt hours after full operation. It can save about 579000 tons of standard coal per year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.572 million tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by about 1.479 million tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions by about 2.398 million tons. The Hami wind zone covers more than 60% of the total area of Xinjiang, with an annual sunshine duration of 3100 to 3300 hours. It is this natural resource that has turned the once sandy land into today's energy hotspot.

Draw a blueprint to the end

The breakthrough of a single project is backed by systematic planning. Currently, Hami City is striving to become a comprehensive pilot city for the national new power system, focusing on the four dimensions of source, grid, load, and storage, adhering to the principle of combining multiple energy sources, coordinating the large-scale development and high-level consumption of new energy, and promoting the deep integration of artificial intelligence and energy. Externally, Hami has formed a pattern of two direct, two alternating, and four directional power transmission. The ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current project from Hami to Chongqing can directly transmit over 36 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity to Sichuan and Chongqing every year; Internally, new models such as direct connection of green electricity and coupling of new energy and coal chemical industry are accelerating, making green electricity not only generated but also utilized effectively.

According to the plan, Hami will optimize the development layout of a new power system, steadily promote the construction of a new energy base in the Gobi Desert at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, accelerate the progress of national energy cogeneration projects, and strive for the implementation of coal-fired power projects in the Santanghu and Naomaohu areas. It is expected that by 2030, the total installed capacity of electricity in the city will reach 90 million kilowatts, including 74 million kilowatts of new energy installed capacity. Efforts will be made to build the new power system with the largest scale of new energy in Xinjiang, the highest proportion of on-site consumption of green electricity, the strongest power transmission capacity in Xinjiang, the most flexible power grid regulation support, the widest range of innovative demonstration applications, and the most reliable safe and stable operation.keywords:New energy information network

From the lean tackling of solar thermal projects, to the continuous transformation of wind and solar storage bases, and to the systematic planning of top-level design, Hami is leading high-quality projects with high-quality party building, accelerating the new landscape of green and low-carbon development in the Gobi Desert, and contributing solid Hami strength to implementing the dual carbon strategy and ensuring national energy security.Editor/Yang Meiling
