When AI computing power and cloud computing collide with the hard constraints of decarbonization in Europe, green electricity has become the scarcest strategic resource. Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company recently acquired a 550 MW photovoltaic power plant in Greece. Light storage collaboration, computing power supply, cross-border mergers and acquisitions - Middle Eastern capital is using green electricity as a wedge to leverage the dual landscape of European energy and digital economy.

Project Overview
The China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway is a landmark project jointly promoted by the three heads of state to jointly build the the Belt and Road. The route departs from Kashgar, Xinjiang, passes through the Turgat Pass into Kyrgyzstan, passes through Jalalabad, and ends in Andijan, Uzbekistan. The total length of the line is over 500 kilometers, of which 304.84 kilometers are within Kyrgyzstan.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company announced the acquisition of a photovoltaic power plant in Greece with an installed capacity of over 550 megawatts, which will become the second largest photovoltaic project in Europe upon completion. The power station is planned to be put into operation by the end of the year, with an annual power generation capacity that can guarantee electricity for more than 200000 households.
Photovoltaic storage collaborative layout
Masdar will provide energy storage batteries for this power station to assist in the smooth operation of the power grid and the consumption of green electricity. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with Khazna data center operator to supply green electricity and provide energy storage solutions to local data centers.

This development model targets industry trends: rapid expansion of AI and cloud computing, and sustained increase in demand for clean power and computing infrastructure in Europe. Greece has outstanding geographical advantages and is expected to create a regional digital hub. Keywords: photovoltaic, energy storage, new energy
Intensify local investment
This acquisition is Masdar's first investment project based on its Greek subsidiary Terna Energy. Masdar has completed the full acquisition of Terna Energy in November 2024 and April 2025, with a planned investment of 5.5 billion euros to increase the total installed capacity to 6 gigawatts by 2030. This investment action demonstrates the optimism of large energy companies towards the development prospects of green energy transformation and digital economy in Europe.Editor/Gong Ziwei
