The small Caucasus country on the Black Sea coast is brewing a railway revolution. On the platform of Tbilisi where old carriages creak, a new round of train replacement plans quietly begins. Georgian Railway Company is entering the international market with a budget of 246 million US dollars, and behind this large order lies the long-awaited opportunity for Chinese companies

Ten high-speed trains embark on a new journey
Georgian Railway Company plans to purchase 10 new passenger electric multiple units to alleviate the shortage of vehicles on major domestic railway lines. The project is being promoted with the support of the Asian Development Bank, with a budget of 246 million US dollars. At present, the purchaser has initiated preliminary research on the international market to assess the production capacity of potential vehicle manufacturers, further clarify technical requirements, delivery conditions, and procurement arrangements, and prepare for the preparation of formal bidding documents. The final procurement conditions will be determined based on the research results. These trains are all 3-car electric multiple units, with at least 200 seats per train. The designed service life of the train body is 40 years, with a maximum design speed of 160 kilometers per hour and a maximum operating speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Each train is equipped with asynchronous traction motors, with a maximum traction power of 2000 kilowatts. The new car must adapt to the existing railway infrastructure conditions in Georgia, adopt a 1520mm gauge, adapt to a 3000 volt DC power supply system, and be able to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from minus 20 degrees Celsius to over 45 degrees Celsius, and adapt to operating conditions at an altitude of at least 1200 meters. Chinese enterprises welcome the east wind
According to a survey questionnaire sent by Georgian Railway Company to potential suppliers, the purchaser expects to complete the delivery of all 10 trains within 18 months after the contract takes effect, and requests potential manufacturers to provide production capacity, proposed delivery plans, relevant supply contracts completed in the past 10 years, and advance payment requirements. The new train will focus on serving routes such as Tbilisi to Batumi, Tbilisi to Poti, Tbilisi to Zugdidi, and Tbilisi to Kutaisi, increasing railway service frequency and alleviating the shortage of existing passenger vehicles. More noteworthy is that in addition to the purchase of 10 passenger electric multiple units, Georgia also plans to purchase 45 new locomotives and 1500 freight cars, opening up a broader market space for international manufacturers including Chinese enterprises.Editor/Min Jing
