Recently, the cumulative external transmission of electricity from Longdian to Hunan project has exceeded 250.1 billion kilowatt hours, with new energy accounting for over 40% of the total, providing continuous clean energy transmission for the central region of China.

Ultra high voltage channel delivers 250 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity in nine years

The Longdian Hunan Project was officially put into operation in June 2017, with a total length of 2383 kilometers. It starts from Qilian Converter Station in Gansu Province and ends at Shaoshan Converter Station in Hunan Province, passing through five provinces and cities with a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts. It is China's first large-scale wind solar thermal power bundled transmission ultra-high voltage direct current backbone channel. During the nine-year operation cycle, the channel maintained high load and stable operation, and the annual average external power transmission remained stable at a high level.

According to actual operating data, 250 billion kilowatt hours of external power transmission is equivalent to saving 30.725 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 19482.5 million tons simultaneously. The surplus wind and solar resources in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province are directly converted into clean electricity available in the Central China region through this ultra-high voltage channel, and the resource advantages in the western region are directly transformed into tangible development benefits.

Intelligent operation and maintenance support channel for high-level stable operation

State Grid Gansu Electric Power has established a three-dimensional all-weather equipment monitoring system. State Grid Gansu Ultra High Voltage Company relies on technical means such as drones, track inspection robots, and online monitoring systems to regularly carry out a comprehensive hidden danger investigation of Qilian Converter Station, continuously promote the upgrading of core equipment, and effectively respond to complex working conditions such as sandstorms and extreme cold waves in the Hexi Corridor. As of October 2026, Qilian Converter Station has been operating safely and stably for 3412 days. Keywords: ultra-high voltage, power transmission

During the peak electricity consumption period in the summer of 2026, the Qilian converter station set a record of 118 days of daily power transmission exceeding 100 million kilowatt hours, maintaining a high level of operation for 59 consecutive days, providing solid support for the peak summer power supply in Central China. At present, the Central China region has entered a critical stage of ensuring supply during the peak winter season. This ultra-high voltage channel will continue to operate at high loads, providing continuous power output for regional power supply and green energy transformation.Editor/Cheng Liting
