In recent years, China has been accelerating the construction of new energy in high-altitude areas. The proportion of new energy installed in high-altitude areas has increased from an average of 28.5% in the past five years to 52.9%, which is 4.4 percentage points higher than the national average.
As of the end of September 2026, the installed capacity of new energy power generation in high-altitude areas of China is 528 million kilowatts, accounting for 25.6% of the country's new energy. Among them, wind power is 197 million kilowatts, accounting for 28.1% of the country's installed wind power capacity; The installed capacity of solar power generation is 327 million kilowatts, accounting for 24.9% of the total installed capacity of solar power generation in China; The installed capacity of solar thermal power generation is 2.12 million kilowatts. Jiang Debin, Deputy Director of the Statistics and Intelligence Department of the China Electricity Council, stated that in terms of installed capacity, the development of new energy in high-altitude provinces and regions is accelerating, and wind (electricity) and photovoltaic (photovoltaic) have become the main installed units. In the past five years, the installed capacity of new energy in seven provinces and regions with an average altitude of over 1500 meters has increased from 144 million kilowatts to 476 million kilowatts, with an average annual growth rate of 34.8%.
