Gahai Wetland, located in Luqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, is not only an important part of Gansu Gahai Zecha National Nature Reserve, but also a natural breeding ground for rare migratory birds such as black-necked cranes and black storks. With the arrival of spring, the local temperature gradually warms up, and these migratory birds also arrive as scheduled to begin their breeding journey.

March every year is the time when migratory birds return to the Gahai Wetland from the warm south. In May, the peak breeding season begins. You can see the busy figures of migratory birds on the surface of Gahai Lake, in the swamps, and in the dense grass. They build nests and lay eggs, carefully caring for each new life, bringing vitality to this wetland.

Since 2014, with strong support from the central government, the Gahai Zecha National Nature Reserve Management Center has launched a series of wetland protection and restoration projects. The implementation of these projects has significantly improved the ecological environment of Gahai Wetland. The water area of Gahai Lake has expanded from less than 500 hectares in the 1990s to 2,700 hectares now, greatly improving its ability to store floods and regulate climate. At the same time, the area of swamp wetlands has also been restored to 12,000 hectares, and the wetland ecosystem has become more stable.

The implementation of this series of measures not only provides a more suitable breeding environment for migratory birds, but also makes important contributions to the improvement of the local ecological environment and the protection of biodiversity.
