On September 22, 2024, the demonstration project of hydrogen production from offshore wind energy undertaken by Jiefang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was completed in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province on September 19. The project not only fills the gaps in relevant fields at home and abroad, but also lays the technical foundation for China to carry out the demonstration of integrated development and comprehensive utilization of the first generation of offshore wind farms.
In September 2022, Jiefang New Energy settled in Zilang Science and Technology City, Nantong Innovation Zone, and the following month undertook the EPCM demonstration project of offshore wind energy hydrogen production project initiated by Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School and approved by Guangdong Provincial Department of Natural Resources. This is the first large-scale and commercial project in related fields in China. Zhang Yuyang, chairman of Jiefang New Energy Technology Co., LTD., introduced that the theoretical technology used in the project has obtained the world's first offshore wind energy hydrogen production system AIP certification issued by the Italian Classification Society, which not only opens a new way for green energy production such as green methanol and green ammonia, but also provides a new idea for the global clean energy technology upgrade.
With the joint efforts of Jiefang New Energy and Tsinghua University team, the project completed the design of the system in May 2023, and gradually began the production and commissioning of hydrogen production module. As one of the representative works of the company's application innovation, the project integrates the advanced technologies in the two fields of offshore wind power and electrolytic green hydrogen production, and integrates the offshore unit, seawater purification module, alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production module, high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage module, intelligent monitoring and control module and other units, forming a complete, safe and intelligent offshore wind energy hydrogen production equipment.
In May 2024, the first batch of offshore wind energy hydrogen production equipment was officially delivered and sent to Zhuhai for offshore joint deployment and hydrogen trial production. Compared with the onshore operation, the offshore lifting operation not only has higher requirements for supporting equipment, technology and programs, but also needs to face multiple factors such as climate, wind and waves, which brings great tests to the team operation. The equipment installation space reserved for the original fan platform is small, and the space influence of the platform diagonal brace greatly increases the difficulty of the work. Zhang Yuyang said that after many rounds of planning and careful preparation, the final site lifting operation team was successfully completed.
With the help of the existing offshore wind farms, the first batch of equipment will demonstrate the mass production of hydrogen at sea, helping China's offshore wind energy and green hydrogen industry to a new level. We will take this as a new starting point, actively layout a series of cutting-edge projects such as offshore methanol synthesis platforms and hydrogen-powered ships, and strive to achieve leadership in the field of offshore clean energy.
