Spanning nearly four years of construction, a large-scale transportation hub that integrates the style of the Tang Dynasty with modern technology has officially landed in the east of Xi'an city. This mega station, which carries the Silk Road culture and connects multiple high-speed railway lines, will completely rewrite the railway travel pattern in Xi'an.
Final completion of the main project
On June 15, 2026, Xi'an East Railway Station reached an important construction milestone, and the overall project of the station was fully completed. The civil engineering, interior and exterior decoration, mechanical and electrical equipment, and track construction of the entire line have been completed, and have passed the static acceptance simultaneously. They have now cooperated with the dynamic joint debugging and testing of the West Tenth High speed Railway. The signal, power supply, passenger service, and disaster prevention monitoring systems within the station operate smoothly and fully meet the standards for opening and operation.

This mega comprehensive transportation hub is located in the Dongcheng area of Baqiao District's high-speed railway, and it is also the first large-scale railway station built and put into use in China at the beginning of the 15th Five Year Plan period. The station is planned to be put into operation by the end of June 2026 along with the West Tenth High speed Railway, and will be connected to the supporting lines of the Xikang High speed Railway in September. Xi'an will enter a new stage of synchronous operation of two major high-speed railway stations. The project will start construction at the end of November 2022, and after nearly four years of hard work, all construction content has been completed.
Transferring in all directions
The total construction area of the project is 394000 square meters, with a main station building area of 100000 square meters. It is equipped with 13 sets of 27 tracks, divided into three major areas: Xiyu Expressway Field, Xiwu Expressway Field, and Xikang Expressway Field, with reserved intercity railway access channels. The architecture is designed with the concept of Qin Mountain, Wei River, Silk Road, and Chang'an as the design concept. The undulating roof simulates the mountains of Qinchuan, and the streamlined facade draws inspiration from the silk road ribbon, integrating the scenery of Qinling Mountains with the architectural characteristics of Tang Dynasty.

The total area of the exterior curtain wall of the station is 36000 square meters, integrating seven types of curtain wall materials, with Tang wood gold and technology white as the main colors, combined with five sets of continuous arch structures to form a unique W-shaped silk road appearance. The 500 square meter irregular arc-shaped photoelectric glass curtain wall under the arch is the first application of high-speed railway stations in China.
The station adopts a three-level three-dimensional layered layout, which can achieve one-stop transfer between high-speed rail, conventional speed rail, subway, bus, and taxi. Three subway lines are planned to be introduced, and 26 municipal roads are provided on the ground, covering various large areas in the east of the city, making it very convenient for citizens to transfer and travel.
Drive regional development
The planned annual passenger volume of Xi'an East Station is 36.5 million, which can effectively share the passenger flow between Xi'an North Station and Xi'an Station, and alleviate the traffic pressure of the main urban railway hub. The station is equipped with intelligent waiting equipment, large smart parking lots, commercial facilities, and convenient service centers to comprehensively optimize the travel experience of passengers.

As a key node of the Xi'an Mi shaped high-speed railway, the station connects multiple national level railway trunk lines. It runs north to the West Extension high-speed railway, east to Central China via the West Tenth high-speed railway, and south to the Shaanxi Southern Corridor through the Xikang high-speed railway. It also has a connecting line to connect with Xi'an North Station, linking multiple already open high-speed railways and building a railway network that radiates across the country. After the opening of the line, the commuting time from Xi'an to Shiyan and Wuhan has significantly reduced, and the travel time from Xi'an to Ankang has been shortened from 3 hours to within 1 hour. The Qinba Mountain area has been included in the one hour commuting circle of Guanzhong, breaking through the traffic barrier of Qinling and promoting the integrated and coordinated development of Guanzhong and southern Shaanxi.Editor/Gong Ziwei
