Cross border freight transportation is becoming increasingly busy, and the Moding Station, the gateway to the China Laos border, is ushering in a new era. After more than seven months of tough construction, the site upgrade project has been successfully completed. The new hardware facilities will break through cross-border transportation bottlenecks and help accelerate the development of commercial exchanges between the two countries.

The renovation project has been successfully completed

In the early morning of June 15, 2026, the last round of line blocking construction was completed, and the seven month long quality improvement, capacity expansion and upgrading project of Boten Station in Laos section of China Laos Railway was successfully completed. This core transportation hub located on the China Laos border has completed comprehensive functional upgrades and significantly increased transportation capacity, laying hardware support for smooth cross-border freight flow and steady development of port economy.

Boten Station is an important transit node for the cross-border transportation of the China Laos railway. Since its opening to traffic, it has always been responsible for the transfer of cross-border passengers and goods, driving the coordinated progress of the border port industry. With the continuous highlighting of the transportation advantages of the China Laos railway, the local passenger and freight transport volume has increased year by year, and the carrying capacity of the original station supporting facilities has approached the upper limit, slowly dragging down the speed and efficiency increase of cross-border freight transport.

Intelligent upgrade, efficiency improvement, and empowerment

To resolve transportation congestion and fully tap into the transportation potential of hub stations, this renovation focuses on improving transportation efficiency and optimizing station facilities and operational processes in a targeted manner. The project will add three new train arrival and departure lines, and at the same time, extend and rebuild an existing locomotive track into an arrival and departure line. It will be equipped with an STP wireless shunting signal monitoring intelligent system, relying on digital equipment to ensure the safety of shunting operations, significantly improving track utilization efficiency and on-site dispatching level. After the renovation is completed, the customs clearance and transportation capacity of Moding Station's goods has increased by more than 10%.
