In the past, in order to turn chip drawings from a design studio in Ho Chi Minh City into physical objects, they had to cross the ocean and travel for months before they could be heard back from factories in the United States or South Korea. Now, this journey across mountains and seas has been compressed into a building on the mainland of Vietnam. Recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology officially unveiled the National Semiconductor Chip Trial Production Support Center - the first public platform in Vietnam dedicated to chip trial production. Its completion not only put an end to the helplessness of local design walls blooming inside and outside, but also marked the crucial last mile for Vietnam's semiconductor industry to move from laboratory conception to industrial mass production.
Fill in the gaps of local industries
Recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology held the unveiling ceremony of the National Semiconductor Chip Trial Production Support Center. This is the first national level public platform in Vietnam dedicated to chip trial production, marking a substantial breakthrough in the local semiconductor industry and connecting local chip design and research with the global semiconductor industry chain.

For a long time, Vietnam has lacked large-scale chip manufacturing capabilities, and local design companies have had to rely on overseas for chip trial production. The investment cost for trial production of a single chip can reach 30000 to 200000 US dollars, and the R&D cycle can be extended to 12 to 24 months. The high expenses and long R&D cycle seriously drag down the development of the local semiconductor industry. The landing of this center is a key layout for resolving industry pain points.
Adequate market demand
In recent years, Vietnam has continuously increased its semiconductor industry layout, introduced exclusive industry development plans, established special coordination committees, and gradually built an industrial foundation. At present, there are about 60 chip design companies gathered locally, with 7000 professional chip designers. Hundreds of universities offer semiconductor related majors, and 19 institutions have submitted trial production applications for a total of about 30000 chips.

This public service center will establish an integrated supporting service system, adopting a multi project shared wafer model to reduce enterprise R&D investment, shorten product iteration cycles, and cover the entire chain of chip design, chip trial production, packaging testing, and market commercialization. Simultaneously linking various investment institutions and technology evaluation systems to address the weak links in the industrialization of local scientific research achievements. Multi party collaborative construction
The center has formulated a three-step development plan, with key government subsidies for enterprise trial production costs from 2026 to 2027; In the future, the subsidy scale will be reduced year by year, and supporting infrastructure will be improved. The goal is to create an influential chip trial production service carrier in Southeast Asia by 2030. At the unveiling event, the center signed cooperation agreements with 19 domestic and foreign institutions, and formed a consulting team consisting of 21 industry experts to jointly cultivate a localized semiconductor industry ecosystem and promote Vietnam's deeper integration into the global chip supply system.Editor/Gong Ziwei
