Shaanxi Yulin Green Hydrogen Project Enters Commissioning Phase

Relying on the abundant scenic resources in Yulin, the local multi billion level hydrogen energy demonstration project has reached a critical turning point in construction. The Yanli 110kV substation has successfully completed the live impact test, and the project has entered the critical period of hydrogen commissioning as a whole.

Under the trend of low-carbon transformation of green electricity and green hydrogen integration in the chemical industry, this project has simultaneously implemented three mainstream hydrogen production processes, taking into account production capacity and cutting-edge technology verification, creating a replicable model for the transformation of traditional energy bases, and ensuring the timely output of green hydrogen by all employees of the enterprise.  

Accelerate project construction

The Yanli Substation, which was put into operation this time, is the first 110 kV supporting station to be put into operation after the State Grid Dejing 330kV Substation. Shaanxi Hydrogen Green Source coordinated multiple construction forces, refined equipment calibration, and live testing full process control to ensure that the substation meets the standards and is put into operation in one go. In May 2026, the project completed the review of the commissioning plan and the single machine commissioning of the compressed nitrogen machine, and the construction pace continued to accelerate. In the future, the company will promote the joint debugging of electrolytic cells, accelerate the approval of green power direct connection, build supporting wind and solar power stations in the factory area, and create innovative projects that support multiple power sources and parallel hydrogen production routes.

Overall project planning

The project covers an area of about 300 acres with a total investment of 20.5 billion yuan. After completion, it will produce 100000 tons of green hydrogen annually, building a complete industrial chain of green electricity hydrogen production covering transportation and chemical industries. It is a benchmark for multi technology integration of green hydrogen in China. The project will be constructed in two phases, with the first phase producing 3000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The ALK process will be used to simultaneously validate PEM and SOEC technologies, resulting in an annual reduction of 60000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions; The second phase will produce 100000 tons of green hydrogen annually, optimize low-energy processes, and reduce 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Different from the single hydrogen production unit on the market, the project operates on the same platform with three synchronized technical routes, which has extremely high industry reference value.  

Each of the three types of processes has its own advantages

ALK alkaline electrolyzed water is commercially mature, with low equipment cost and long service life, suitable for stable wind and solar power large-scale hydrogen production, but limited load adjustment speed. PEM proton exchange membrane electrolysis has sensitive start stop and high hydrogen purity, which is suitable for fluctuating scenarios in wind and solar power generation. Its weakness lies in the high equipment cost caused by precious metal raw materials. SOEC high-temperature electrolysis of water is a cutting-edge technology, with an electrolysis efficiency of 85 to 100% at 700 to 1000 degrees Celsius. It can be combined with industrial waste heat to reduce electricity consumption, and is still in the stage of large-scale demonstration.Keywords: multi route electrolytic hydrogen production、low-carbon energy transformation
