On June 30, 2026, the main project of SPIC Wuling Electric Power Hunan Taoyuan Muwangxi Pumped Storage Power Station officially started construction. This is SPIC's first pumped storage project and also the core key project for energy supply guarantee in Hunan Province during the 14th Five Year Plan period. The total installed capacity of the power station is 1.2 million kilowatts. The first unit is planned to be put into operation in March 2030, and all units will be connected to the grid for power generation in December of the same year.
As the only planned pumped storage station in the Xiangxi North area, the project has achieved a construction speed rarely seen in the industry from the early stage of promotion.

Significant compression of construction costs and cycles in the early stages of tackling challenges
The project team adhered to a strict and refined control approach throughout the entire process, completing more than 30 specialized technical studies. Compared with the pre feasibility stage plan, it directly saved more than 1 billion yuan in costs and reduced the overall construction period by 27 months.
The team is also developing targeted technology for utilizing artificial aggregates of sandy slate, digesting local building materials resources on site, and further reducing construction costs. The safety management process directly draws on the mature control experience of nuclear power, maintaining zero accident records throughout the entire process from early preparation to main construction. Green construction requirements run through the entire process, and tunnel construction is used as much as possible to reduce surface vegetation damage, and overall slag recycling and utilization are coordinated to reduce environmental disturbance.
Smart construction sites provide support capabilities for the new power system
The project is building a smart management system that covers the entire work area, integrating functions such as video surveillance, AI safety recognition, and ecological environment monitoring. It relies on 5G and big data platforms to achieve dynamic control of the entire construction process, laying the foundation for long-term intelligent operation of the power station. After the power station is put into operation, it can fill 76% of the predicted peak shaving gap in northwest Hunan in 2030, reduce system network loss by 18 million kilowatt hours per year, reduce the proportion of deep peak shaving of thermal power by 4.45%, and reduce the cost of peak shaving in the province by about 131 million yuan annually.
