On July 3, 2026, National Comprehensive Green Energy officially launched the construction of a 200MW/800MWh grid side independent energy storage power station located in Maying Town, Tongwei County, Gansu Province. This project will directly address the long-term peak shaving shortcomings of the local wind and solar power base.

Tongwei County boasts high-quality wind and solar resources, with a new energy installed capacity of 1.5 million kilowatts and a cumulative power generation exceeding 14.09 billion kilowatt hours. However, due to the intermittency and volatility of wind and solar power generation, there have always been obvious bottlenecks in local new energy consumption and stable operation of the power grid.
Standardized configuration adapted to the operational needs of the Northwest Power Grid
The total construction scale of the project is 200MW/800MWh, using extensively validated lithium iron phosphate electrochemical energy storage technology. 32 sets of 6.25MW/25MWh energy storage units are set up, and a new 330kV booster station and 8 35kV collection lines with a total length of 1.65 kilometers are built to support the construction of on-site roads, fire protection, and comprehensive public facilities.
The entire system can be integrated into the intelligent dispatching system of the regional power grid, flexibly completing bidirectional regulation of charging and discharging, smoothing the instantaneous fluctuations of wind and solar power generation, and greatly improving the grid's peak shaving and emergency backup capabilities.
Collaborative release of multiple comprehensive benefits from wind, solar and energy storage
After the power station is put into operation, it will directly link with the existing wind and photovoltaic power stations in Tongwei, open up the consumption channel of the million kilowatt level wind and solar power base in Dingxi, and enhance the safety and resilience of the Hedong power grid. Each year, it can promote the on-site consumption of 210 million kilowatt hours of new energy electricity, corresponding to the saving of 64000 tons of standard coal and the reduction of 165000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The project construction and long-term operation phase will also release a large number of local employment opportunities, driving the landing of upstream and downstream industries such as energy storage operation and maintenance, and supporting services, providing replicable landing samples for the green energy transformation in the Longzhong region.
