In 2026, the competition in the computing power field has evolved from simply building infrastructure to a profound transformation in production capacity and supply models. After landmark events such as China Telecom's multi billion token procurement and Beijing Computing State owned Token Factory, the first phase of the Jiujiang Data Center B in China Mobile's Yangtze River Delta (Wuhu) officially started construction on July 9th, announcing the addition of another heavyweight AI computing power base in the central part of the Yangtze River Delta.

This is not an ordinary data center expansion, but a key step for China Mobile to promote the industrialization of computing power and the standardization of token supply. It will also become the core computing power support for Anhui to undertake the spillover of AI industry in the Yangtze River Delta and build a digital Jianghuai.

Specially designed for high-density AI

Different from traditional storage based data centers, this project has been targeting AI computing power services since its planning, adopting a hybrid deployment mode of high-power intelligent computing racks and general-purpose computing racks, aiming to directly support high-density GPU clusters and meet the needs of large model training and real-time inference. The total investment of the project is about 337 million yuan, with a total construction area of 61900 square meters. It is expected to be completed and put into use in August 2027.

Its construction standards are extremely high, including 2 professional computer room buildings, 2 oil engine backup platforms, and 1 110KV dedicated substation, with high standard planning for the entire chain from power supply to emergency support. After completion, the project will collaborate closely with the already operational A area, significantly enhancing China Mobile's overall computing power supply scale in the Yangtze River Delta and helping Wuhu deeply integrate into the digital integration process of the Yangtze River Delta.

Computing power is changing to digital tap water

Looking at the industry trends in the past six months, the logic of domestic computing infrastructure has been completely restructured: from hoarding servers and renting cabinets to building intelligent computing centers and mass producing tokens. China Telecom was the first to launch a 17.4 billion yuan token generation service centralized procurement order, directly purchasing intelligent production capacity; China Unicom plans to invest over 17.5 billion yuan in computing power by 2026 to solidify its transmission infrastructure; China Mobile has set up a Token Office at the group level and launched a nationwide Token package, aiming to build Tokens into a universal currency that links computing power and users.

The three major telecom operators have a highly consistent goal - to be a computing power hydropower company in the AI era without compromising on models. The commencement of the Wuhu project is precisely the physical implementation of this strategy in the Yangtze River Delta. Relying on local clean energy and location advantages, it will not only be a computing hub in the Wanjiang region, but also a new engine to attract upstream and downstream industries such as AI and cloud computing, making AI computing truly as affordable, stable, and readily available as tap water.Editor/Cheng Liting
