The aviation communication management department of Türkiye announced that the company officially signed an agreement to participate in SAFFA Fund 1. Behind this decision was the intense discussion that lasted for several weeks in the high-level conference room of Türkiye Airlines. In the face of the industry dilemma of insufficient global sustainable aviation fuel capacity and price fluctuations, the airline finally chose to deeply bind upstream projects through capital ties. On the day of signing the contract, the deputy general manager of Türkiye Airlines, Levint Konukuku, wrote in an internal email: "This is not a financial investment, but a fuel guarantee for our carbon reduction flights in the next decade."

Fund Plate Gathers Aviation Giants

The SAFFA Fund was established in December 2023 with a total subscribed capital of approximately $208 million. Airbus is the cornerstone investor of the fund, while aviation finance giants such as Air France KLM, Qantas, and BNP Paribas are core participants. The fund focuses on investing in SAF mass production projects with mature global technology, covering diverse production processes and global multi regional markets to diversify industry investment risks. The products of the invested projects all meet CORSIA and EU aviation emission reduction certification standards.

The entry of Turkish Airlines aims to lock in supply and reduce risks

Türkiye Airlines' participation in the fund this time is not only financial investment, but also intended to deeply bind the global upstream SAF project, continue to grasp the first-hand information of raw material development, new production technology, and global fuel supply market, and ensure its long-term stable supply of SAF from the source. This directly alleviates the industry pain points of insufficient global sustainable aviation fuel production capacity and tight supply, while reducing operational risks caused by aviation fuel price fluctuations. Deepen cooperation and collaborate on green aviation

This cooperation will deepen the collaboration between Türkiye Airlines and Airbus in the field of aviation low-carbon transformation and SAF supply chain guarantee, and consolidate the common goal of both sides to promote green upgrading of the aviation industry. Konukuku said that the airline will rely on the fund platform to help improve the global SAF industry ecology, support various green fuel innovation projects, drive the development of Türkiye's local aviation low-carbon industry, and enhance Türkiye's core influence in the global aviation carbon neutrality process. Morgan, Executive Director of Burnham Sterling Asset Management, stated that the addition of Turkish Airlines further enriches the fund industry resources and confirms the high recognition of global aviation companies for the long-term prospects of the SAF track.Editor/Gao Xue
