On July 30, 2026, the 505 MW wind solar hydrogen integrated synthetic green ammonia project in Shenneng Etuoke Banner reached a major milestone. With all 48 electrolytic cells successfully debugged and high-purity green hydrogen produced, this first batch of national hydrogen energy pilot projects located in Qipanjing Industrial Park, Etuoke Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, has officially taken a crucial step from new energy power generation to green electricity hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis, laying a solid foundation for the integration of the entire green hydrogen industry chain.

All 48 electrolytic cells have been adjusted

The hydrogen production scale of the project is 48000 standard cubic meters per hour, with an annual hydrogen production of about 20000 tons. On July 30, 2026, all 48 electrolytic cells were debugged and successfully produced high-purity green hydrogen. The entire debugging process from the start-up of the first electrolytic cell to its full operation took two months. The hydrogen storage section is equipped with 12 1875 cubic meter spherical tanks, downstream supporting an annual output of 150000 tons of synthetic ammonia unit, and also equipped with one set of 30 MW pure hydrogen gas turbine for hydrogen energy storage.

Wind and solar power generation provides green power support for hydrogen production

The project is equipped with 500 MW wind power and 5 MW photovoltaic power, and adopts off grid hydrogen production mode. After completion, the expected annual power generation is 1.4 billion kilowatt hours, which can save about 490000 tons of standard coal annually, and the consumption rate of new energy electricity exceeds 80%. The project is invested and constructed by Shenneng North Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. It is one of the first hydrogen energy pilot projects in the energy field of the National Energy Administration and the second batch of wind solar hydrogen production demonstration projects in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Green electricity, green hydrogen, and green ammonia are about to be fully connected in the entire chain

The project will start construction in June 2023, and in November 2024, Shenneng Northern Energy and Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. signed an EPC general contract for green hydrogen to green ammonia production. The successful production of hydrogen this time marks a substantial step in the transformation of the project from new energy power generation to green electricity hydrogen production and ammonia chemical coupling. The project is planned to be fully completed and put into operation in August 2026, which will establish a closed-loop integrated industrial chain of wind and solar power generation, green hydrogen production, and green hydrogen synthesis of ammonia.Editor/Gao Xue
