South Africa, plagued by power shortages, has turned its attention to China's energy industry. The South African minister led a delegation to China to carry out investment docking, with multiple talks and on-site inspections landing one after another. A number of potential projects emerged, opening a new window for Chinese enterprises to participate in local energy transformation.

Practical project implementation

South African Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, led a team to hold an energy investment conference in Beijing, hoping to leverage the technological advantages of Chinese enterprises in manufacturing infrastructure to implement projects related to the 2025 Comprehensive Resource Plan. Currently, six major energy original equipment manufacturers have expressed their intention to cooperate. Sasol collaborates with Envision Energy to create a green hydrogen energy system for factories, exploring the production of electronic methanol and sustainable aviation fuels. The South African Institute for Radioactive Waste Disposal has signed a memorandum of understanding with China National Nuclear Corporation to promote cooperation in nuclear waste treatment technology. Keywords: Central South energy cooperation, South African power transformation

Expand cooperation space

The delegation also visited multiple technical fields such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, high-voltage transmission, nuclear waste disposal, etc. South Africa has long faced the problem of insufficient power supply and aging power grid, and urgently needs to introduce capital technology to complete energy upgrading. This visit has established a collaborative path from policy planning to project implementation. In the future, South Africa will promote the conversion of intentions into physical projects, leverage the strength of China's industrial chain to accelerate the construction of its energy infrastructure, and drive the industrialization process forward.Editor/Min Jing
