Green hydrogen project in Songyuan to produce 66k tonnes a year

The wind from Songyuan blows through the desolate area of the petrochemical park, and soon it will change to another sound - not the muffled sound of the pumping unit, but the low hum of the alkaline solution surging in the electrolytic cell. Recently, the new electrolytic water hydrogen production project of Zhongke Yaxin Green Hydrogen Energy (Songyuan) Co., Ltd. was registered on the online approval and supervision platform for investment projects in Jilin Province. A cluster of equipment with an annual output of 65900 tons of green hydrogen has been officially included in Songyuan's industrial map.

This is not the first time Matsubara has stepped onto the green hydrogen vent. Previously, the first phase of China Energy Construction Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park had already put 45000 tons of green hydrogen into operation, and the sign of Green Hydrogen No.1 had just been hung up not long ago; Now, Songyuan Tongyuan Park has once again established a subsidiary, and the public works are being built on the shoulders of the imported solid asphalt full green energy high-efficiency upgrading industrialization project. The chain of green hydrogen coupling with inferior heavy oil to produce low-carbon synthetic crude oil is slowly closing in the northeast and western regions.

87 electrolytic cell lineup

The project covers an area of 6.94 hectares, with the core being a 65900 ton/year electrolytic water hydrogen production unit, equipped with 87 1000Nm ³/h alkaline electrolysis cells in one go. The electrolytic cell, gas-liquid separation, hydrogen purification, water injection and alkali injection units are fully equipped, and next to them are a 20000 m ³/h circulating water plant, a sewage lifting pump station, a refrigeration station equipped with four 3400kW electric compression refrigeration units, and an on-site cabinet room.

Choosing the alkaline route is not accidental. In 2026, alkaline electrolysis cells account for over 80% of large-scale green hydrogen projects in China, and 1000 standard cubic meter single cells have already run at full capacity in projects in Kuche, Da'an, and Songyuan; The equipment price has decreased from 3000 to 4000 yuan per kilowatt to 1500 to 2000 yuan, and the localization rate has reached over 90%, becoming the ballast stone for hydrogen production at the 10000 ton level.

How to spend 1.754 billion

The total investment of the project is 175.365 million yuan, and it is planned to start construction in April 2027 and be completed in October 2028. The money is mainly invested in the electrolytic hydrogen production main unit and equipment plant, and auxiliary systems such as circulating water, refrigeration, and sewage are newly built as independent units. Other public works rely on the relevant facilities of the adjacent imported solid asphalt upgrading project, reducing the need for one pipe gallery and one substation.

This reliance based construction method perfectly aligns with the green hydrogen+low-quality heavy oil project being developed by Zhongke Yaxin. The 1.6 million ton solid asphalt upgrading demonstration project in Tacheng, Xinjiang, is equipped with 1.5 gigawatts of wind power and approximately 65000 tons of green hydrogen. The 65900 ton unit in Songyuan is almost of the same scale, which is equivalent to moving the same set of green hydrogen logic from the northern slope of Tianshan to the Songnen Plain.

As of June 2026, the national renewable hydrogen production capacity under construction has reached 1.4 million tons per year, with the northeast and western regions being important growth areas. Songyuan and Baicheng, carrying the brand of Jilin's 10 million kilowatt level clean energy base, have just been selected as pilot cities for hydrogen energy in the Northeast Yangtze River Delta region. Their task is to supply green hydrogen ammonia alcohol on a large scale and catch orders for industrial carbon reduction and low-carbon shipping in the Yangtze River Delta region.

According to industry calculations, the cost of alkaline hydrogen production can be reduced to 10 to 15 yuan per kilogram at 0.15 yuan/kWh of green electricity, approaching the upper limit of grey hydrogen. If the 65900 tons of green hydrogen from Songyuan were fed to the asphalt upgrading unit nearby, it would not only consume wind and solar power, but also cut off a large piece of carbon for the refining process, which is exactly the landing point for integrated wind solar hydrogen storage as mentioned in the "China Hydrogen Energy Development Report (2026)".keywords:New energy information network

When it is completed in the autumn of 2028, 87 electrolytic cells will be fully opened.
