The energy construction in East Africa has reached a milestone moment, with Tanzania's iconic large-scale hydropower station officially put into operation. Relying on China's full chain infrastructure and equipment technology, the project fills the local power gap and lays a solid energy foundation for regional industrialization development.

Super power station completed

Recently, the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Station in Tanzania held a completion and operation ceremony, attended by over 8000 people including President Hassan, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania. The power station officially began commercial operation. The power station is located downstream of the Rufiji River and integrates power generation, flood control, and irrigation functions. It is the largest hydropower project in Tanzania.

The total installed capacity of the project is 2115 MW, equipped with 9 domestically produced water turbine generators with a single capacity of 235 MW. Dongfang Electric is responsible for supplying and installing the complete set, while China Power Construction is responsible for the overall design and core construction of the main project. The average annual power generation of the power station can reach 6.307 billion kilowatt hours. After being put into operation, the total installed capacity of Tanzania has increased to 4646 megawatts, which can meet nearly half of the country's electricity demand.

Empowering local development

During the construction period, the project created 14000 job opportunities for the local area, and a large number of local workers received professional skills training, effectively driving local employment and skill improvement. President Hassan stated that the power station will completely reverse the long-term power shortage in the local area, fulfill decades of energy development vision, stabilize electricity, attract industrial investment, accelerate industrialization process, and continue to drive residents' income growth.
