When the wind and photovoltaic base in Northeast China sends green electricity out of Shanhaiguan, an ultra-high voltage channel spanning four provinces and regions has already achieved astonishing cumulative transmission volume. As of August 20, 2026, the cross provincial transmission capacity of the Zhalute converter station has officially exceeded 300 billion kilowatt hours. This is the first ultra-high voltage transmission channel in Northeast China, which is continuously delivering green power resources from eastern Mongolia to the Shandong load center thousands of miles away.

300 billion kilowatt hours milestone achieved

The Zhalute to Qingzhou ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current project is the first ultra-high voltage transmission channel in Northeast China. The total length of the line is 1234 kilometers, starting from Zhalute converter station in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia and ending at Guanggu converter station in Weifang, Shandong, passing through Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, and Shandong, with a rated transmission capacity of 10 million kilowatts.

As of August 20th, the cumulative external power transmission of Zhalute converter station has exceeded 300 billion kilowatt hours, of which new energy accounts for more than 30%. This transportation scale is equivalent to the total electricity consumption of about 100 million households in a year, saving about 95 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 250 million tons. The carbon reduction effect of cross regional resource allocation continues to emerge.

The external delivery channel network continues to extend

This ultra-high voltage channel, which has been in operation for many years, has become the core artery for surplus electricity from Northeast China to directly reach the load center of Shandong, greatly alleviating the pressure on power supply in the Shandong region and opening up export routes for large-scale new energy consumption in the eastern part of Mongolia.

At present, State Grid Mengdong Electric Power is accelerating the construction of new ultra-high voltage channels from Mengxi to Beijing Tianjin Hebei, and synchronously cooperating to provide support for the external transmission of the large-scale new energy base in Shagehuang. It continues to weave a dense cross regional ultra-high voltage transmission network, providing a more stable hardware guarantee for the optimization of the national energy structure and regional power coordination and mutual assistance.Editor/Cheng Liting
