The transmission lines spanning the Gobi Mountains crisscross the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains. With the commissioning of the Kashgar transmission project, the construction of Xinjiang's ultra-high voltage power grid has reached an important milestone. The provincial-level 750 kV backbone power grid, which leads the country in scale, has been implemented, which not only solves the problem of local power imbalance, but also delivers a large amount of clean electricity to the whole country.

Grid forming
On August 27, 2026, the 2 × 660000 kW coal-fired power 750 kV transmission project in Kashgar, southern Xinjiang was officially put into operation. The total length of 750 kV transmission lines in Xinjiang exceeded 15000 kilometers, making it the province with the largest number of 750 kV substations and the longest line mileage in China. After more than ten years of construction, from the start of the Phoenix North Uzbekistan project in 2008 to the commissioning of the power transmission and transformation project around the Tarim Basin in 2025, a complete ultra-high voltage ring network will be gradually built locally. At present, 39 750 kV substations and 120 transmission lines have been built, with a north-south span of 3300 kilometers and an east-west span of 2200 kilometers for the power grid.

Cracking Supply and Demand
The energy and electricity load in Xinjiang is rich in the north, poor in the south, and scarce in the east and west. The single circuit transmission capacity of 750 kV lines has increased by 5-10 times compared to 220 kV lines, and the transmission distance has increased by 3-5 times. This has achieved comprehensive mutual assistance between thermal power in northern Xinjiang and new energy power in eastern and western Xinjiang, and the transmission section in eastern Xinjiang has entered the tens of millions of kilowatts level, effectively resolving the spatial and temporal mismatch of regional electricity.

Intelligent Protection Network
The over 1500 kilometer route passes through desert and mountainous areas, making operation and maintenance extremely difficult. State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power adopts a three-dimensional inspection and centralized monitoring operation and maintenance mode, achieving full coverage of unmanned aerial vehicle autonomous inspection for 750 kV lines, deploying 9598 sets of intelligent monitoring devices, and processing 1.5 million various warnings annually. Keywords: Xinjiang power transmission, energy supply guarantee
The local area has formed an internal supply eight ring network and external transmission five channel pattern, with a cross regional transmission capacity of 33 million kilowatts. From January to July, Xinjiang transmitted 96.955 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 23.12%, and 36.664 billion kilowatt hours of new energy, accounting for 37.82%. This year, 38 power grid projects will be promoted, with plans to start 11 new projects. Looking ahead to 2030, after the completion of the Three Connections and Six Direct Transmission Network, the transmission capacity will be increased to 60 million kilowatts.Editor/Min Jing
