In the old factory area of the retired thermal power plant in Boxberg, Saxony, Germany, a European leading grid level energy storage power station has officially started construction on 6 hectares of ecologically restored land. On August 31st local time, the groundbreaking ceremony for the GigaBattery Boxberg 400 project was held. Haibosichuang, together with LEAG Clean Power and Siemens Energy, jointly promoted the landing of this large-scale energy storage project, injecting key flexible support capabilities into the energy transformation of the traditional coal-fired power area in Lusatia.

Energy storage scale adapted to meet the demand of the German power grid
This large-scale energy storage project with a capacity of 400MW/1600MWh is a core component of the LEAG gigawatt plant's integrated renewable energy base. The project is located in the old factory area of the original Boxberg thermal power plant, where environmental restoration has been completed. The retired thermal power site resources will be fully reused to avoid new land occupation.
After completion, the project can continuously discharge at full power for 4 hours, theoretically covering the electricity demand of about 640000 households, directly providing peak shaving support for the eastern German power grid, significantly increasing the local wind and photovoltaic power consumption ratio, and helping traditional coal-fired power production areas smoothly complete energy system switching. Based on the latest capacity market bidding rules of the German Federal Network Agency in 2026, the 4-hour energy storage configuration of this project will also be adapted to the latest access requirements of the local power grid for flexible regulation resources.
Supporting the expansion of the European energy storage market
Haibosichuang's German subsidiary is responsible for the full process EPC delivery of the project, providing the HyperBlock III liquid cooled lithium iron phosphate energy storage system that has been verified by multiple global projects. Siemens Energy is responsible for providing the 380 kV GIS high-voltage grid connection equipment. The entire solution is fully compatible with Europe's strict power grid standards and complex local climate conditions, ensuring the long-term stable operation of the power station. Keywords: energy storage power station, new energy project

The commencement of this project is an important milestone for Haibosichuang's European business, further consolidating its localized business layout in Germany and reflecting the mature implementation capability of domestic energy storage manufacturers to undertake large-scale public energy storage projects with a capacity of one million kilowatts in Europe. As the energy transition process in Europe continues to accelerate, the technical solutions and localized service capabilities of domestic energy storage enterprises will play a more important role in the construction of flexible resources for the global power grid.Editor/Cheng Liting
