Five years ago, such busy scenes were still limited by rail transport capacity; Nowadays, Kazakhstan is weaving the entire transportation network denser and running faster. From railways to seaports, from locomotives to digital platforms, a comprehensive upgrade covering land, sea, and air has accelerated the transformation of this landlocked country into a transportation hub for the Eurasian continent.

Doubling and extending the railway network

In the past five years, Kazakhstan has built and modernized approximately 5000 kilometers of railways, nearly twice the size of the previous 30 years. The national transit transportation volume has reached 33 million tons, and the railway industry's revenue has exceeded 3 trillion tenge. After the completion of the Dostyk Moint and Almaty bypass railways, new lines such as Darbaza Maktayar, Moint Kizilzar, and Ayaguz Bakt will continue to be constructed, and existing lines will be upgraded simultaneously. In the next three years, about 2200 kilometers of new construction and renovation are planned.

Locomotives and passenger cars are also undergoing upgrades. Relying on cooperation with Alstom and Wabitec, the two production companies produced their 200th and 700th locomotives respectively in August this year. By 2026, it is planned to introduce 191 new passenger carriages equipped with modern safety systems, video surveillance, biological toilets, and networking functions. According to the President's deployment, 100 out of 124 train stations have been renovated and installed, and the waiting environment has been completely transformed.

Capacity expansion of Caspian Sea ports

The shipping side also applies force. The total throughput capacity of Harbin Port is currently 21.8 million tons, with a target of increasing it to 30 million tons by 2030. In the past five years, the freight volume of international transportation routes across the Caspian Sea has skyrocketed by 5.6 times, from 800000 tons to 4.5 million tons. Aktau Port and Kurek Port are advancing expansion, with new terminals, dredging, and berth renovation progressing simultaneously. By 2029, an additional 8 bulk and container ships will be purchased.

The supporting corridors are expanded synchronously. The annual traffic capacity of the Trans Caspian Sea Line and the North South Corridor is expected to increase from 6 million tons to 10 million tons. The Caspian Sea is no longer the destination, but a springboard connecting the Caucasus, Türkiye and Europe.

Digital platform efficiency improvement

In addition to hardware infrastructure, the software layer is also making up for its shortcomings. The E-Joldar platform monitors the progress of highway construction and maintenance, while the Smart Cargo platform optimizes freight management by embedding artificial intelligence, multimodal transport, and green channel mechanisms.
