On September 8, 2026, a 400 kV main transformer weighing several hundred tons was officially taken offline at the TBEA factory. This customized equipment is about to depart for Abu Dhabi and be embedded in the world's first large-scale solar storage project with stable power supply 24/7. When there is no light in the photovoltaic system at night and energy storage is alternated between charging and discharging, this double split main transformer will become the power hub of the entire station, providing core substation support for the benchmark project of energy transformation in the Middle East.

Double split technology for fault isolation

The SFFZ300000/400 main transformer that was taken offline this time has a rated capacity of 300 megavolt amperes. It adopts a three-phase oil immersed air cooling and low-voltage double split technology route. The low-voltage side has two independent 150 megavolt amperes branches, which can be connected to two sets of 35 kV new energy collection systems at the same time. The core advantage of the dual split structure lies in fault isolation: when one circuit fails, the equipment can quickly isolate and limit short-circuit impact, while the other circuit still maintains normal operation, avoiding single point failures that could cause the entire station to shut down. The ultra wide range on load voltage regulation capability can adapt to severe fluctuation scenarios such as photovoltaic output surge and energy storage discharge, which is suitable for the complex and changing operating conditions of large-scale solar energy storage power stations in deserts.

Fill the gap in 400 kV wide voltage regulation technology

This offline event fills the technical gap of TBEA in the field of 400 kV wide voltage regulation and large capacity split transformers. The high temperature desert environment in the Middle East, large capacity new energy gathering, and strict access standards for the power grid require special requirements for transformer insulation, heat dissipation, voltage regulation, and short-circuit resistance. The equipment is customized and developed for the working conditions of the Masdar all-weather solar energy storage project, indicating that the domestic power transmission and transformation supporting capabilities are further adapted to the special needs of ultra large scale solar energy storage power stations.
