An energy storage array has been successfully connected to the local power grid in Zengiata District, Tashkent Oblast. The project team has overcome the difficulties of inland material transportation by crossing regional and technological differences. With the collaborative efforts of multiple parties, this leading electrochemical energy storage power station in Central Asia has ushered in the moment of grid connection, injecting Chinese strength into Uzbekistan's energy transformation.

Overcoming difficulties in overseas construction
The Sergeli 175MW/350MWh energy storage power station in Uzbekistan was constructed by POWERCHINA Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, which is the largest single electrochemical energy storage project of POWERCHINA in Central Asia and also a benchmark project for China Uzbekistan the Belt and Road energy cooperation. Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Sherzod Hojaev, witnessed the grid connection and affirmed the effectiveness of the project construction. The total investment of the project is 85 million US dollars, equivalent to about 570 million yuan. During the construction phase, the team faced challenges such as local special grid connection standards, inland material transportation obstacles, and differences in technical systems between China and foreign countries, and completed the equipment installation and cable laying system debugging in an orderly manner. The project is now connected to the grid and is planned to operate at full capacity by the end of September 2026.

Empowering local energy transformation
The project adopts grid type energy storage technology, which can independently build voltage and has inertia support for fast frequency regulation and black start capability. It is equipped with BMS battery management, PCS energy storage, converter and EMS energy management integrated platform. The modular design is convenient for operation and maintenance scheduling, and the safety performance is at the advanced level in the industry. After being put into operation, it can provide 219 million kilowatt hours of regulated electricity per year, benefiting one million residents in Tashkent.
