On the loess slope of the Zuoyun North construction site, the mottled marks left by coal mining subsidence are gradually being covered by new energy storage construction fences. The 820MW/3280MWh energy storage project of the new energy base in the coal mining subsidence area of Jinbei, Shanxi has officially started construction. This subsidence land has ushered in a crucial turning point from a black energy imprint to a green energy storage highland.

Layout of 10 million kilowatt level green power in subsidence areas
Jinbei Base is the only new energy project among the 12 large-scale scenic bases in China that focuses on coal mining subsidence areas as the core development carrier. The project plans to install 6 million kilowatts of new energy and support 2 million kilowatts of coal-fired power supply. Relying on the under construction 1000 kV high-voltage channel, clean electricity will be directly transmitted to the Beijing Tianjin Hebei load center.
This land, which was once ecologically damaged due to coal mining, has now transformed into a green energy field with abundant wind and solar resources. It not only completes the ecological restoration of the subsidence area, but also simultaneously builds a new energy system that integrates wind, solar, thermal and storage networks.
Hybrid energy storage solution solves consumption problems
The total investment of the energy storage project under construction this time is 2.394 billion yuan, located in three counties and districts of Xinrong, Yungang, and Zuoyun. Among them, Yungang North Station innovatively adopts a mixed energy storage configuration of 80MW lithium iron phosphate and 20MW all vanadium liquid flow. Lithium iron phosphate responds quickly to smooth out short-term fluctuations in wind and solar power, while the all vanadium liquid flow relies on long-term characteristics to provide stable large capacity support. The advantages of the two technologies complement each other.

After the project is put into operation, the utilization rate of new energy in the base will be increased to over 95%, and multi energy joint operation will be achieved through the integration and coordination of source, grid, load, and storage. This energy storage construction model adapted to the scenario of coal mining subsidence areas will serve as a replicable practical sample for the large-scale implementation of new power systems in China.
