On the morning of October 20, 2026, the Guangze Power Center in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, ushered in two key nodes at the same time. The Guangze Phase II gas power plant project officially commenced, and the Guangze Phase I grid connected power generation was completed simultaneously. This large power cluster with a total installed capacity of 4500 MW was planned to be a landmark of China Vietnam high-end energy cooperation on the Indochina Peninsula energy map of jointly building the the Belt and Road.

Vietnam's largest H-class gas turbine power station officially starts construction
Guangze Phase II is currently the largest liquefied natural gas combined cycle power plant in Vietnam, with a total installed capacity of 1612.8 megawatts. It consists of two 806.4 megawatt units and adopts the world's advanced H-class gas turbine technology supplied by General Electric. The investment in the power plant part of the project is about 40.123 trillion Vietnamese dong, and the overall project investment, including LNG supporting facilities, is about 52.49 trillion Vietnamese dong, equivalent to about 2 billion US dollars. According to the construction plan, Unit 1 of Phase II will be put into commercial operation on February 28, 2030, and Unit 2 will be put into commercial operation on April 30, 2030.
China Power Construction and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation Lilama have formed a consortium to undertake the EPC general contracting task of the project. The project owner is Vietnam Electric Power Group EVN, and the specific management and implementation are carried out by the Second Power Project Management Committee EVNPMB2. This project is the core implementation project under Vietnam's eighth revised power plan, corresponding to the national goal of 22524 MW LNG power generation total installed capacity by 2030. After completion, the project will become a benchmark project in Vietnam's high-end gas power generation field, and also marks the official entry of China Power Construction into the high-end market of billions of LNG power stations in Vietnam.
Synchronized promotion of large-scale power cluster construction
In sync with the groundbreaking ceremony of Phase II, two units of Guangze Phase I have been connected to the grid, delivering a total of 620 million kilowatt hours of electricity. It is expected to be officially put into commercial power generation within 2026. Guangze Phase I is a coal-fired power plant using ultra supercritical technology, with an installed capacity of 1403 megawatts. The EPC general contracting task is undertaken by a consortium composed of enterprises from Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. The overall planned installed capacity of Guangze Power Center is about 4500 megawatts, with a total investment of over 121.82 trillion Vietnamese dong. In addition to the first phase of coal-fired power and the second phase of LNG projects, there are also three phases of LNG project planning reserved. After completion, it is expected to supply more than 26 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually. Keywords: LNG project, gas turbine power station, high-end gas power generation

Pei Huangfang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, stated that the simultaneous implementation of the dual nodes is an important milestone in the development of Quang Tri Province's energy strategy and has significant implications for ensuring Vietnam's national energy security. China Power Construction Corporation will promote project construction with the highest standards, turning Guangze Phase II into a high-quality green project and a friendly project. The pragmatic cooperation between China and Vietnam in the field of high-end gas power generation will also continue to deepen and solidify as the project progresses.Editor/Cheng Liting
