The team of the Bubiyan Island super port project is steadily accelerating the repair work, and on July 1, 2026, it was officially confirmed that the project has entered the implementation phase. The first phase of the $4 billion general contracting project led by China Communications Construction has been fully launched, carrying the mission of deepening cooperation between China and science, and building a cross-border logistics corridor connecting the Gulf of Central Asia to western China.

Project scale and volume
At the end of 2025, China Communications Construction won a $4 billion EPC contract, with French companies responsible for supervision. The first phase will construct a 1200 meter container berth, with an annual processing capacity of 2.7 million TEUs and a total construction period of 60 months. The project covers an area of 1161 hectares and plans to have 24 berths, all of which will have a throughput capacity of 8.1 million TEUs and become a first-class port in the Middle East. It will be developed in three phases in an orderly manner, supporting free trade zones and industrial areas.

Regional strategic value
The port is located at the mouth of the Arabian River and is the core infrastructure of Kuwait's 2035 vision, creating a northern logistics hub facing Iraq and Central Asia. Building the Gulf Central Asia China Western Trade Corridor based on ports, as a new cross-border freight channel outside of the China Europe freight train, improving the regional connectivity pattern, and helping Kuwait break away from a single oil economy and achieve industrial diversification.
Opportunities for overseas industries
The general contracting project covers the entire set of intelligent loading and unloading equipment at the port, releasing stable supply space for domestic port equipment enterprises. The subsequent expansion of multiple berths will continue to open the bidding window, and China Communications Construction will continue to deeply cultivate the port markets of multiple countries in the Gulf, driving the mass export of construction machinery and intelligent logistics systems, and systematically improving the infrastructure cooperation network in the Middle East region. Key words: overseas infrastructure, the the Belt and Road Middle East Corridor

The project will simultaneously promote cooperation in multiple fields such as sewage treatment, residential areas, and new energy between China and the United States. Several key contracts are about to be signed, which will continue to empower long-term economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.Editor/Min Jing
