Italian energy engineering giant Saipem has made another breakthrough in the Southeast Asian deepwater oil and gas market, winning the FPSO EPCI order for the development of the Kutai North Hub oil field project in East Kalimantan, Indonesia through a local joint venture entity, with a total contract size of approximately 2 billion US dollars. This is also one of the largest floating production unit turnkey projects to land in Indonesian waters in the past three years, directly consolidating Saipem's leading position in the global deepwater offshore engineering field.

The project was awarded by Eni North Ganal, a subsidiary of Searah, a joint venture between Eni and Petronas. The 48 month execution cycle covers the entire process from front-end design to final production.

Super large FPSO suitable for 2000 meter deep water scenarios

The FPSO design specifications delivered this time directly benchmark against the world's top deepwater operation requirements, with a daily processing capacity of over 1 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas and 90000 barrels of condensate, and a storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels of output. The project covers a water depth range of 1700 to 2000 meters and is accompanied by drilling and completion projects for 16 production wells, as well as a full chain subsea pipeline system.

The entire system will be directly connected to the Bangtang LNG plant and local urban gas users through the existing East Kalimantan subsea pipeline network, without the need for new long-distance export pipelines to quickly connect to Indonesia's existing energy consumption network, greatly reducing the overall production cycle of the project.

Southeast Asian deepwater market becomes a must compete track for marine engineering giants

Prior to the implementation of this order, Saipem had already delivered over 12 FPSO units in the Southeast Asian region. Leveraging its local manufacturing base and localized project team, its advantages in project execution efficiency and cost control are continuously expanding. Currently, global investment in oil and gas development is accelerating towards deep-water blocks in Southeast Asia. As a core resource country in the region, Indonesia has launched 11 deep-water oil and gas tender blocks in the past three years, and the visibility of orders from leading offshore companies has extended beyond 2030. With this iconic project, Saipem has further secured its leading market share in the floating engineering market in Indonesia for the next few years, and laid a benchmark case foundation for its expansion of future mega offshore projects in the Asia Pacific region.Editor/Cheng Liting
