The stalemate in the Strait of Hormuz has lasted for a long time, and Iran and Oman have launched multiple rounds of technical negotiations. The navigation route map has been finalized, but some management rules have not yet been implemented, and there is still uncertainty about whether the strait can be fully opened.

Confirm the waterway planning
The spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Iran and Oman have reached a consensus on the navigation plan for the Strait of Hormuz. The two countries will start negotiations in early August 2026, focusing on the precise coordinate control rights and responsibilities of the passage route. The confirmation of the navigation coordinates will be completed from August 5-7, and the navigation channel map will be officially implemented. The terms of ship passage management are still under negotiation. The relevant agreement still requires approval from Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
Unclosured variables still exist
This consensus does not mean that the strait will be fully opened immediately. Since the outbreak of the conflict on February 28, 2026, the strait has been in crisis, and global oil and gas exports have been impacted. Iran previously only opened the northern waterway, and the new plan proposes to add a safety navigation guarantee service fee. There has been no substantial breakthrough in the US Iran negotiations, and the new navigation management system formulated by Iran and Afghanistan will directly affect the direction of energy exports from the Middle East.Editor/Min Jing
