On August 19, 2026, Khorgos Railway Port officially exceeded 6000 China Europe Central Asia trains in 2026, and the cargo volume at the corresponding port exceeded 10 million tons. Against the backdrop of pressure on Xinjiang's total foreign trade volume and improved structure, this milestone data marks that China's westward opening land core channel is running far beyond expected traffic efficiency.

Multi departmental collaboration to clear traffic congestion points
Faced with the strong demand for import and export trade, the Xinjiang railway department deepens daily communication and cooperation with the Harbin Railway, evenly arranges the loading of various types of goods, accelerates the handover rhythm of wide gauge heavy vehicles, and dynamically adjusts the flow path of vehicles. Khorgos Station dynamically increases the number of shunting and freight operation personnel during the centralized arrival period of trains, refines the transportation organization plan, strictly implements the full length and full load operation standard, and improves the load capacity of a single train by scientifically supplementing vehicles.
The customs and railway departments rely on the smart railway port and local rapid customs clearance reform to achieve real-time exchange of customs and railway data, coupled with intelligent pre inspection technology for map review, and implement the policy of immediate inspection and release of trains, resulting in an overall customs clearance efficiency improvement of over 50%.
Continuous expansion of channel radiation capability
At present, there are 91 China Europe Central Asia regular trains passing through Khorgos railway port, reaching 46 cities and regions in 18 countries, and more than 200 kinds of goods are transported. As of August 2026, a total of 11828 China Europe Central Asia freight trains have been operated through the dual ports of Xinjiang Railway, with a year-on-year increase of 5.9%. The proportion of these trains in the total transportation volume of the Western Corridor in China has remained stable at over 50%. The transit time for imported goods at ports has been reduced from the past two to three days to less than 16 hours, and the operation time for local exported goods has been reduced from 6 hours to 1 hour, greatly improving the turnover efficiency of cross-border logistics. The operation data of Khorgos is a direct reflection of the vitality of Xinjiang as a bridgehead for opening to the west, from the overall scale of the annual traffic volume of a single port breaking through 6000 trains to nearly 12000 trains at two ports. This continuously accelerating overland channel is providing the most solid logistics support for the stability of the industrial chain supply chain of countries along the the Belt and Road.Editor/Cheng Liting
