As of August 17, 2026, the annual cumulative power generation of the 120 MW source grid load storage integration project in Tuha Oilfield has exceeded 100 million kilowatt hours, reaching 108.2 million kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. As the first source grid load storage demonstration project of China Petroleum and one of the first to be put into operation in Xinjiang, it has been connected to the grid for less than three years. With real operational data, it has run a practical example of the integration and transformation of new energy in the oil and gas industry.

Realize efficient consumption of green electricity through full chain collaboration

This power station has not been an isolated power generation facility since its inception, but a micro energy system covering the entire chain of source, grid, load, and storage. Through a four-dimensional collaborative approach of fine tuning of the power generation end, upgrading of the power grid end, dynamic matching of the load end, and benchmarking optimization of the management end, the project has achieved zero external power purchase for oilfield production during the period of photovoltaic power generation.

As of now, the cumulative power generation since the project was connected to the grid has reached 534 million kilowatt hours, equivalent to saving 32500 tons of standard coal and reducing 84400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The on-site consumption rate of green electricity has increased to over 98%, completely breaking away from the traditional limit of relying on natural resources for new energy.

Oil and gas transformation breaks out of the dilemma of two skins

In 2023, this project was selected as a landmark achievement in the integration of oil and gas exploration and development with new energy in China. Its core value lies in breaking the physical stacking dilemma of the separation of new energy business and main business of oil and gas enterprises in the past. Relying on idle well site land in oil and gas fields as a power generation carrier, with its own internal power grid undertaking dispatch functions, stable oil and gas production electricity serves as the natural consumption main body, combined with energy storage to smooth out power generation fluctuations. The entire closed-loop system makes new energy no longer an independent sideline, but a core lever that directly empowers the oil and gas main business to reduce costs and carbon emissions. At present, the electricity cost of this model is 12% lower than the industry average, and a standardized transformation plan that can be directly replicated and promoted has been formed.

Starting from the milestone of 100 million kilowatt hours, Tuha Oilfield is continuously deepening the refined operation of new energy projects and building a diversified development pattern of oil and gas as the main source of new energy empowerment. Traditional energy and new energy have never been an either or substitution relationship, but a symbiotic relationship of complementary advantages. The integration of source, grid, load, and storage is the optimal transformation path for traditional oil and gas enterprises to balance efficiency, safety, and low-carbon goals.Editor/Cheng Liting
