The foundation pouring of the first energy storage converter has just been completed next to the photovoltaic power plant cluster in Romania Moldova region. On September 18th, local energy company Renovatio Solar officially reached a cooperation agreement with CATL to jointly develop the 918MWh Borze ș ti energy storage project, becoming the largest single cell energy storage facility announced in Romania so far.

Large capacity project landing in Eastern European energy storage market

The project is fully developed by the specialized project company Borze ș ti Energy Storage SRL, with equity jointly held by Romanian local energy company RNV Infrastructure and international green energy developer Greenvolt Power. Renovatio Solar serves as the EPC general contractor for the entire project process, and the overall construction period is expected to be 12 months. This is the first time that a local EPC company in Romania has independently undertaken a super large energy storage project close to GWh level, indicating that the full chain execution capability of local large-scale energy storage projects has matured.

As the leading enterprise in global energy storage battery shipments for several consecutive years, CATL has a global market share of about 30% for energy storage batteries. This cooperation will connect the project to the world's top energy storage supply chain system. Previously, in September 2026, Longi had just delivered all equipment to the 50MWh liquid cooled energy storage project in Titu, Romania. Chinese energy storage technology manufacturers are rapidly becoming the core supply force for energy storage expansion in Eastern Europe.

The flexible upgrade of the power grid has received critical support

According to Romania's updated national energy and climate plan, the country plans to achieve a 1200MW battery energy storage installation target by 2030. Previously, the total scale of energy storage in operation in the country was only about 320MWh, and the single station scale of the Borze ș ti project was nearly three times the existing stock. After the project is put into operation, it will significantly enhance the local power grid's consumption capacity, smooth out fluctuations in photovoltaic and wind power output, and reduce the rate of power abandonment.

In the first half of 2026, Romania's national photovoltaic installed capacity increased by 720MW, and the proportion of renewable energy output has risen to 38%. The pressure of power grid peak regulation continues to rise. After the project is put into operation, it will directly participate in the local electricity spot market and ancillary service transactions, providing a replicable landing model for the commercial operation of large-scale energy storage projects in Eastern Europe in the future.
