On October 26, 2026, the project site in Kuwait's Jehra Province was neatly filled with construction vehicles, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the North Kabad sewage treatment plant and supporting projects was officially held. This largest sewage treatment project in Kuwait's history has officially entered the comprehensive construction phase.

Super sewage treatment project officially launched

More than 300 representatives from the governments of China and China, as well as Chinese companies, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The project covers a total area of approximately 2.8 million square meters, with an initial daily treatment capacity of 500000 cubic meters for the sewage treatment plant, which can be expanded to 1 million cubic meters in the long term. The project is undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited and is currently the largest single sewage treatment infrastructure project within the territory of Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works stated at the ceremony that the core goal of the project is to improve the national sewage treatment backbone network, promote the construction of a water resource recycling system, and support the implementation of national environmental sustainable development goals. This project is also one of the largest public works projects invested by Kuwait in the field of ecological and environmental protection in recent years, directly filling the core gap in the sewage treatment capacity of the northern region.

Joint construction of landmark projects along the the Belt and Road

The Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait stated at the ceremony that after the completion of the project, it will comprehensively enhance Kuwait's capacity for sewage collection, transportation, treatment, and the full chain utilization of recycled water, providing strong support for the sustainable development of the local economy and society and the implementation of the 2035 national vision. The project is a landmark project for China and science to jointly build the the Belt and Road with high quality and deepen practical cooperation in infrastructure and ecological environmental protection.
